Cabinet approves the Tata Electronics-PSMC fab: Rs 91,000 crore, up to 50,000 wafers a month

The Union Cabinet approved India's first commercial semiconductor fab at Dholera on 29 February 2024: Tata Electronics with Taiwan's PSMC, an investment of Rs 91,000 crore, capacity up to 50,000 wafer starts a month on a 300 mm line.

Planned nodes are mature and specialty: 28, 40, 55, 90 and 110 nm, for power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers and high-performance computing logic. Ground-breaking followed in March 2024. As of mid-2026, civil work is reported past halfway with cleanroom fit-out and equipment calibration under way; first silicon is targeted around December 2026 at the mature nodes first, with commercial production reportedly moving to mid-2028.

More than 20,000 direct and indirect jobs are projected. No source confirms a chip produced yet, and this ledger will record that day when a primary source does.

What to watchFirst-silicon confirmation against the December 2026 target.
